The WheelTrack™ is a groundbreaking wearable device designed to enhance the performance of wheelchair-bound athletes. It integrates IoT platforms, Raspberry Pi, and Arduino Nano with sensors to monitor vital metrics like heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and distance traveled. The device provides real-time data to athletes and coaches, enabling personalized training and injury prevention.
The development of WheelTrack™ involved multiple prototypes and testing phases, with input from athletes and coaches to ensure its practicality and effectiveness. The device has been used by wheelchair basketball players affiliated with the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India (WBFI) during their practice and training sessions, as well as at competitive events such as the WBFI North Zone National Wheelchair Basketball Qualifying Tournament (September 2024) and the WBFI National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (October 2024).
WheelTrack™ has garnered significant recognition, including being shortlisted for the Innovations in Sport for Sustainable Development Award by Olympism365 and making the top-200 in the vivo Ignite: Technology and Innovation Initiative. The device represents a significant step forward in assistive technology, offering a tool that not only enhances athletic performance but also promotes inclusivity in sports.
